Saving Face with Chemical Skin Peel Treatment

Undergoing a chemical skin peel is one of the most effective ways to get rid of the signs of ageing without going through invasive surgery. Using acids such as Glycolic, AHA or TCA acids, a chemical peel can get rid of dead skin cells, wrinkles, acne scars, and fine lines. It can also help even out your skin tone. Typically, the treatment would last anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on the number of coats to be applied on your face. There are three major steps to a chemical skin peel: cleansing, the application of a chemical solution, and the application of a neutralising solution. First, your face needs to be cleansed before applying the chemical solution. The final step is to seal the skin with a neutralising solution.

After the treatment, it is normal to feel tingling sensations and see some irritations, but it is important not to touch the affected areas to help it recover faster and fuller. Redness and swelling post-peel are also normal and will resolve itself over time. A few days after the treatment, the face will feel tighter and darker, and then it will crack and peel for a few days up to a week. During the entire time from day one of post-peel until the final result, it is vital not to poke, prod, or scratch the face so that it can heal thoroughly and effectively.

A chemical skin peel will dry out your skin and regular moisturisation is necessary to help the recovery process. Your doctor may likewise recommend frequent face washes with either clean water or a prescribed cleanser. Direct contact with the sun should also be avoided in the first two weeks after the chemical skin peel. If you cannot keep away from the sun, then make sure to put on heavy-duty sunscreen because sunlight tends to be harsh on treated skin. Your doctor may also give you more instructions and a list of things to stay away from during your post-peel recuperation.
