All About Rhinoplasty Surgery – What Can Be Fixed and How Easy Is It?

Rhinoplasty surgery—commonly known as a ‘nose job’—is a medical procedure that changes the appearance of your nose in either a subtle or a dramatic way. Before you go and ask your doctor about it, it’s important that you know a few things about this type of cosmetic procedure. It’s important to do some research about what to expect and assess if the possible benefits outweigh any potential risks.

The shape of the nose can affect a person’s facial proportions and aesthetic appearance. Many individuals with odd-shaped noses are bullied, causing them to develop low self-esteem and even poor self-image. Are you one of them? If you are unhappy with the size or shape of your nose, talk to your surgeon about undergoing rhinoplasty. This type of surgery helps the face become symmetrically attractive. It also helps alleviate breathing problems that may be caused by the shape of the nose.

A typical rhinoplasty procedure takes a few hours and you probably don’t have to stay in the hospital overnight. You’ll be sedated so that you’re relaxed and unable to feel any pain. The surgeon will make cuts within your nostrils and across the base of your nose if necessary. The surgeon then reshapes your inner bone and cartilage to create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

You can expect some swelling in the first few days after surgery. The condition should improve after the third day, but the pain may last for up to two weeks. Most patients have no problems recovering at home. Be sure to avoid any strenuous activity for at least three to six weeks after the cosmetic procedure. You may even return to your regular activities within two to three weeks if your surgeon allows you to. By this time, the signs of swelling or bruising have significantly subsided.
