Liposuction Surgery in the UK - Tips to Pick a Right Doctor for You

Anyone who wishes to undergo liposuction surgery in the UK must be well-informed about the risks and precautionary measures of this treatment. Extracting fat from problematic areas of the body is nothing new; it has been done for many years. The more technologically advanced clinics get, the easier and safer this method becomes. Still, it is recommended to be very careful when choosing a liposuction surgeon.

1. Know the surgeon's field of expertise

Sometimes even the best facelift surgeon or breast enhancement surgeon is not the right person for the job. They may have limited skills and knowledge compared to an experienced liposuction surgeon. For your safety and peace of mind, opt for a doctor that specializes in this particular type of cosmetic surgery. In case the doctor has many specialties, make sure that he has proven experience in liposuction surgery.

2. Find out if the surgeon and the clinic are registered

Clinics that perform liposuction in Birmingham UK must be registered with the Care Quality Commission. You can ask the clinic to provide evidence that they are registered or you can simply search their name from the official site of CQC. As for cosmetic surgeons, they must be registered with the General Medical Council or GMC. This is only a minimum qualification for a cosmetic surgeon in the UK.

3. Check the surgeon's credentials

Many clinics use their website for promotions and marketing, saying only good things about themselves. But you shouldn't be gullible and believe everything they say. For example, if the surgeon claims that he or she is a member of a prestigious organization for cosmetic surgeons, then you should verify it. Visit the official sites of the organization and check if his or her name is in  the list.

4. Read up on the surgeon's reputation

Use your research skills to discover how good your surgeon is. Do not just rely on the testimonial page of their site because they could be filtered. Search for honest reviews from their previous patients.

Neck Lift Surgery: 3 Things You Must Do Before the Surgery

As much as the latest and finest foundations, concealers and creams can hide and correct fine lines and wrinkles on the face, they do very little for the neck. In fact, no amount of makeup can hide the inevitable sagging and wrinkling around the neck area. Consider a neck lift surgery if this part of your body bothers you. There are several things you need to do prior to a neck lift. Your surgeon may advise you to do the following, depending on your condition:

1. Testing: You will be asked to undergo routine laboratory tests such as blood test, urinalysis, ECG (Electrocardiogram), and chest x-ray. If you have a history of heart problems, then a stress test may be needed. This should be done 3 to 6 weeks before the surgery. If you are a female, a pregnancy test may be necessary as a surgery will need to be postponed if it comes out positive.

2. Lifestyle changes: You may be advised to stop drinking and smoking (including any nicotine patches, pipes, snuff etc.). Your doctor may also ask you to stop taking any dietary or herbal medications and supplements in preparation for your surgery. Hair treatments such as haircuts, perms and colouring should be done three weeks before the surgery. Hair treatments will be allowed after around 5 weeks after the procedure. Fasting is also a requirement. Do not consume anything after midnight, including water, coffee, gum, candy etc. On the day of the surgery, you must not wear makeup, hair or nail products, contact lenses, dentures, false hair wigs or extensions, etc.

3. Ask for help: If you live alone, then it is advisable to ask a family member or friend to help you during your recovery. Prepare pillows to ensure that you head and neck are elevated. Also, prepare ice packs and groceries just in case so that you have everything you need at home.

Neck Lift Surgery – What Is It and Why You May Need One

Loose and sagging skin are among the dreaded signs of ageing, and they happen as skin loses its elasticity. They can occur anywhere on the body, including your jaw and neck. You have the option to seek a board-certified cosmetic surgeon for neck lift surgery, a procedure that will reshape the skin around your neck and jaw. Neck lift surgery will remove loose skin, and it may involve other procedures like liposuction to get rid of excess fat, fat transfer to modify the shape of your neck or jaw, or platysmaplasty to tighten your underlying neck muscles. The procedure may be conducted together with a facelift, too, especially if it will create a more aesthetically pleasing and harmonious look.

Surgery is conducted under general anaesthesia and the common risks include swelling, headaches, temporary numbness, and bruising, all of which should go away in three to seven days. The surgeon may give you antibiotics and painkillers. When considering neck lift surgery, it is important to ensure that it will be conducted by an experienced cosmetic surgeon that is highly adept in the procedure. Make sure he has a good track record of successful neck lift surgeries throughout his entire practice, and look at before and after photos to determine if surgeon’s aesthetic style matches yours. That way, you can be sure that the results will be satisfactory and you will not regret going under the knife.

Neck lift surgery usually takes two to four hours to complete. Most procedures can be completed on an outpatient basis, but you may need to stay at a hospital overnight for observation if the surgeon requires it. The recovery period is typically two to three weeks. While recovering, you may be required to wear a neck pressure garment for support, and avoid strenuous exercises or activities.
